In a Facebook post, police in Lacey, Washington, said that an officer found an unoccupied stolen vehicle in the parking lot of a Target store.

While the officer remained outside with the vehicle, another officer went inside the store to look at surveillance video, KIRO-TV reported.

Meanwhile, a man inside the store walked out with a shopping cart full of stolen merchandise, Lacey police wrote on Facebook. The man, from Federal Way, saw the officer and allegedly attempted to flee, police said.

The man originally refused to give his name or provide any identification, but told officers that he had just ingested fentanyl, police said.

He identified himself at an area hospital, and police discovered that he had a felony arrest warrant for possession of a stolen vehicle, KIRO reported.

The suspect also was supposed to be wearing an electronic home monitoring device on his ankle but had cut it off, police wrote on Facebook.

When officers searched the stolen car, they found more items that had been taken from a Target store in Olympia.

More than $2,000 worth of merchandise was returned to both stores, KIRO reported.

Once he was medically cleared, the suspect was arrested and booked into jail for possession of a stolen vehicle and felony theft, police said.
