The 50-year-old Venables previously worked for the Sooners for 13 years, serving as co-defensive coordinator and defensive coordinator before leaving for Clemson in 2012, the AP reported. He will replace former Sooners head coach Lincoln Riley, who was recently hired by the USC Trojans, according to KOKI-TV.

Although Oklahoma has not confirmed it has hired Venables, Sooners athletic director Joe Castiglione tweeted a padlock emoji Sunday following a visit to Venables’ home, KOKI reported.
