Neighbors recite Pledge of Allegiance daily amid coronavirus pandemic

It is something school kids do to start their learning day, but during the COVID-19 pandemic, with many schools closed for weeks, if not the rest of the school year, students may not be reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.

But to bring back a bit of normalcy to the uneasiness some may be feeling with their school schedule being not the same, one family started walking to the end of their Annapolis, Maryland, driveway to do the daily ceremony, the “Today” show reported.

She says she does it every day at 9 a.m.

It started with Danielle Lawrance and her two daughters, Olivia and Emilia. Then she invited the neighborhood to come out to join them in a moment of togetherness, while still staying apart, WBAL reported.

Lawrance told WBAL she started it for her children, but she now realizes she needed it as much as they did, and the moment in front of the flag has turned into a chance for the small community to make sure everyone is OK.

“You don’t know when this is going to end, how it’s going to affect family and friends who don’t live near you, and you can’t check in on everyone in person,” she told WBAL.
