Missouri man charged with murder after 2-year-old girl killed in drive-by shooting

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — A Missouri man is behind bars in connection with the shooting death of a 2-year-old girl in St. Joseph, authorities said.

According to the St. Joseph News-Press, Marcain R. Kimbrough-Ballard, 20, of St. Joseph, is facing a second-degree murder charge weeks after a drive-by shooting left toddler Raelynn Elise Craig dead and two adult victims, one man and one woman, injured.

According to KQTV and the News-Press, the incident happened about 3:30 p.m. Sunday near 20th and Messanie streets. Gunfire erupted from a black Hyundai Elantra, striking the three victims, who were in a silver Dodge Caliber, the News-Press reported.

Craig later died at a nearby hospital, authorities said. Both were hospitalized and have since been released, according to the newspaper.

A witness to the incident later told police that Kimbrough-Ballard, a passenger in the Elantra, had shot at the Caliber, the News-Press reported. He was arrested and booked into the Buchanan County Jail, where he remains held without bond, authorities said.

Another St. Joseph man, Caimon Stillman, is facing a second-degree murder charge in connection with an Aug. 9 incident, but it wasn’t immediately clear whether he was wanted in connection with the same shooting, according to the News-Press. He has not been apprehended, the newspaper reported.
