Man reportedly shot, killed woman in car outside Texas hospital before turning gun on himself

HOUSTON — A man reportedly shot and killed a woman who was inside her car in a parking lot at the Texas Children’s Hospital West Campus with her daughter in the back seat before turning the gun on himself, officials say.

A shooting happened Sunday in Houston, Texas, around 2 p.m. The Houston Police Department in a news conference Sunday evening said that the woman’s 8-year-old daughter was in the back seat at the time.

When officers arrived at the hospital, they found a deceased woman at the scene with gunshot wounds, according to HPD. Officers also found a deceased man with what appeared to investigators as a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

HPD said it appears that the woman and the man were bringing the girl to the hospital for medical attention, according to KHOU. The girl was not injured in the shooting.

HPD said the girl is receiving treatment at the hospital. It is not clear what for. It is also not clear what the man and the woman’s relationship was, but HPD confirmed that the man was not the girl’s father, according to KHOU.

The hospital’s operations were not impacted by the suspected murder-suicide, according to KHOU.

The investigation is ongoing. No further information has been released, including what led up to the shooting.
