Indiana boy, 12, shot while grilling hot dogs, police say

KOKOMO, Ind — A 12-year-old Indiana boy was shot Tuesday while he was grilling hot dogs and listening to music at his apartment complex, authorities said.

Police in Kokomo were called to the Terrace Meadows Apartments around 6 p.m., the Kokomo Tribune reported. A girl who called herself the victim’s sister said the boy was grilling hot dogs outside their apartment when he was shot, the newspaper reported.

The boy was airlifted by helicopter to an area hospital for treatment, WTHR reported. The boy’s uncle told the television station that the victim was shot in the arm and in his upper torso.

The boy’s condition was unknown late Tuesday, although his uncle told WTHR that the victim was going to recover.

Police were unsure whether the boy was targeted or a bystander who was hit by a stray bullet, the Tribune reported.

There were other people in the area at the time of the shooting, WXIN reported. Police said they have identified a person who was involved, the television station reported.
