The vehicle is breaking the company’s recent traditions, as it is smaller than other Ford trucks that are on the market.

It is about the size of a compact SUV, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Ford hasn’t had what is considered a small truck since the Ranger stopped rolling off production lines in 2021. The new Ranger, introduced in 2018, is considered mid-size, CNN reported.

Along with a smaller footprint, the Maverick’s base model will have front-wheel drive, and will have an electric motor along with a gasoline engine.

One thing missing on the base model will be the plug, so charging the vehicle while parked won’t be an option, CNN reported.

The truck will be a four-door with seating for five people, and will primarily be used in cities and suburbs, with limited off-road capabilities, CNN reported

Ford hopes to attract drivers who have not considered buying a truck before.

Smaller trucks are becoming popular, with Hyundai unveiling the Santa Cruz, which is considered a “Sport Adventure Vehicle,” and Nissan producing a redesigned Frontier midsize truck. Toyota also has its popular Tacoma midsize truck.

The base price for the Maverick will be $20,000, with well-equipped versions costing in the mid-$30,000 range.

It will go on sale in the fall, The Wall Street Journal reported.
