A person was walking through the woods when they found the remains, WGXA reported. The unidentified person called 911 around 2:15 p.m., WMGT reported

The location of the body was characterized by WMAZ as deep in the woods behind an America’s Best Value hotel, which is next door to Burger King.

Only bones and skin were found. The skull was missing, coroner Leon Jones told WGXA.

A pair of black tennis shoes were found nearby but Jones was not sure if the shoes were connected to the person’s death, WMAZ reported.

The remains were buried in dirt so the authorities will have to dig around the body to make sure they get any evidence that was left behind.

The person was found face down and Jones was not able to confirm their sex or race, WMAZ reported.

Jones said he is not sure how long the body was there, only that it was there for “a long time.”

Officials are trying to determine the identity of the person, WMGT reported.
