Grieving mom searching for missing necklace that contains son’s ashes

PORTLAND, Maine — A Maine mom has turned to social media for help finding a piece of missing jewelry that holds the ashes of her dead son.

According to WMTW-TV, Pattie Gallant lost a silver chain with two pendants – a dragonfly figure and fingerprint charm – last week. She wears the necklace daily in memory of her son, Evan, who died of cancer in 2017, WGME-TV reported. He was 21.

“I’m hoping for a Christmas miracle. I lost the most precious piece of jewelry I’ll ever own,” Gallant wrote in a Facebook post Thursday, explaining that Evan’s ashes are inside the dragonfly pendant.

Gallant added that her father, who died in October, used to wear the other charm. The fingerprint emblazoned on the front is Evan’s.

“I’m not materialistic, but this is the only physical ‘thing’ that I don’t want to live without,” Gallant wrote.

Gallant believes that the necklace “fell off” Monday when she was in Portland, Falmouth, Westbrook and Scarborough, according to the post, which has been shared 2,000 times. She stopped at the Portland Red Cross, a West Falmouth Hannaford parking lot and other locations that day, WGME reported.

Anyone who finds the jewelry is urged to send her a Facebook message.
