Dubstep DJ Cookie Monsta dead at 31

Music producer Cookie Monsta has died, his record label announced Friday. He was 31.

Born Tony Cook, the Nottingham, United Kingdom, native was known for tracks such as “Blurgh” and “Ruff.”

Circus Records, the musician’s label, released a statement Friday, adding that the company would not comment further “until deemed appropriate.”

“Our beloved Tony Cook (aka Cookie Monsta) has left us,” the label wrote. “We are devastated, no words can contain our feelings on such a day.

“All of our thoughts go to Tony’s family, friends and our heart especially goes out to Tony’s son Olly, the Mini Monsta,” they continued. “The world will miss you Cookie, we will miss you brother.”

No cause of death was listed, People reported.

The producer was a veteran on the worldwide bass music scene and played at many of the world’s biggest dance music festivals, Billboard reported.

That included Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas, Electric Zoo and Glastonbury, the magazine reported.

Never Say Die Records tweeted that “The scene has suffered a huge loss today. Rest in peace Cookie Monsta, a friend and an inspiration to so many.”

Producer Downlink wrote, “I remember passing tunes back and forth on the dubstepforum back in the day ... a true OG and pioneer of the dirty dubstep sound has left us.”
