In a news release, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection said that on Tuesday, officers intercepted “a noteworthy amount” of drugs with an estimated street value of $500,091.

The narcotics were recovered at the Camino Real International Bridge II in Eagle Pass, located in southern Texas about 140 miles southwest of San Antonio.

A CBP officer referred a 1999 GMC Savana 1500 van driven by a 54-year-old man, who is a U.S. citizen, for a secondary exam, according to the news release. An inspection, which included K9 animals, resulted in the discovery of 13 packages.

One package contained 2.2 pounds of alleged brown heroin, two packages contained 4 pounds of alleged white heroin and 10 packages containing 20.8 pounds of alleged crystal methamphetamine, according to the CBP news release.

The driver was arrested, and the case was turned over to Maverick County Sheriff’s Office.

”Our CBP officers’ knowledge of concealment methods, combined with their use of available assets played a key role in the discovery of these dangerous drugs,” Port Director Paul Del Rincon said in the news release.
