Babin, 73, a Republican who is a four-term congressman from the state’s 36th congressional district, said in a statement that he began experiencing mild, cold-like symptoms Friday. After several negative tests, Babin tested positive on Saturday.

Babin has been fully vaccinated since December 2020 and said he would recuperate at his home in Woodville, Texas.

“I’ve felt better, but I’ve also felt worse,” Babin said in his statement, which he posted on Twitter. Babin added that he has begun a “therapeutic regimen” at the advice of his doctors.

Babin, who is a dentist, is also a member of the Republican Doctors Caucus that has been urging people to get the COVID-19 vaccine, CNN reported.
