Cannon Hinnant: $600,000 raised in 3 days for 5-year-old shot at close range

WILSON, N.C. — A GoFundMe account for a North Carolina boy who was shot and killed by his neighbor has raised more than $600,00.

Cannon Hinnant, 5, was struck in the head at point-blank range on Aug. 9 while riding his bicycle with his siblings outside their home.

A 25-year-old neighbor, who had spent time with Hinnant’s father on the family’s porch the day before, was arrested and is facing a first-degree murder charge. The motive is unclear, but police said it was not a random act.

“They were just playing in the yard like any other day,” Austin Hinnant, Cannon’s father, told WRAL.

An investigation is underway.

The GoFundMe profile, which was created by Cannon’s grandmother, listed a goal of $5,000 to pay for funeral services. Within three days, more than $627,000 has been raised.
