LAREDO, Texas — Two unrelated seizures by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers netted $6.5 million in hard narcotics at the World Trade Bridge in Laredo, Texas.
The first seizure occurred Monday, Nov. 23, when CBP officers assigned to the cargo facility at the Laredo Port of Entry encountered a stake bed truck supposedly transporting evaporator machines from Mexico, according to a news release.
Further inspection revealed seven packages containing roughly 226 pounds of suspected methamphetamine with an estimated street value of more than $4.5 million.
The second interception occurred Wednesday, Nov. 25, when CBP officers in the same port encountered a 2003 International tractor hauling a flatbed trailer, carrying a shipment of marble. Further examination revealed 119 packages containing nearly 257 pounds of suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of nearly $2 million.
“These interceptions aptly illustrate CBP’s ongoing commitment to keeping our borders safe and secure from illicit drug trafficking,” Acting Port Director Eugene E. Crawford, with the Laredo Port of Entry, stated in the news release.
Both cases have been turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations special agents for further investigation.
