The man, who has not been identified, was taken to a hospital for surgery. He is in stable condition and his injuries are non-life-threatening.

The bear left the area, and a search using tracking dogs is being conducted to find it.

The bear is believed to be the same one that has been seen in the neighborhood in recent days, and could also be the same bear that has been seen getting into trash in the area for several years. Past attempts to trap and move the bear have been unsuccessful.
