According to the first lady’s personal account of her battle with COVID-19, published on the White House’s official website Wednesday afternoon, the couple’s 14-year-old son initially tested negative for the virus. His infection was confirmed by a second test, but his mother said he remained asymptomatic and has since tested negative for the virus.

“Naturally my mind went immediately to our son. To our great relief he tested negative, but again, as so many parents have thought over the past several months, I couldn’t help but think “what about tomorrow or the next day?”. My fear came true when he was tested again and it came up positive. Luckily he is a strong teenager and exhibited no symptoms. In one way I was glad the three of us went through this at the same time so we could take care of one another and spend time together. He has since tested negative,” Melania Trump wrote.

The first lady also characterized her own COVID-19 symptoms as “minimal” but noted “hit me all at once, and it seemed to be a roller coaster of symptoms in the days after.” She also applauded the “wonderful caretakers” and medical professionals who rendered aid during the family’s ordeal.

Melania Trump’s comments come two weeks after she and the president were diagnosed with the virus. Although Trump spent several days at Walter Reed Medical Center and received experimental treatments, the first lady and their son remained at the White House throughout their COVID-19 bouts.
