300 people attend party, host arrested after breaking governor’s coronavirus directive

HOWELL TOWNSHIP, N.J. — Despite a rule set by New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy limiting gatherings to 25 people due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, a party well exceeded that number, and police had to respond.

Police said more than 300 people attended what is characterized as a “pop up” party at a home in Ramtown, WNBC reported.

Howell Police arrested the host, Jersey Shore Online reported. They did not say if any other arrests were made as they broke up the party that apparently spilled over to neighbors’ properties.

Police said the host charged admission to the party, $30 for women and $40 for men, NJ.com reported.

Murphy lowered the number of people allowed to gather after reports of large parties. The number permissible had been set at 100 but Murphy limited it to 25 people last week, WNBC reported.
