2-year-old boy critically hurt after shooting self in Atlanta; man arrested

ATLANTA — A man is behind bars after Atlanta police said a toddler shot himself over the weekend.

According to WSB-TV, the shooting occurred about 10 a.m. Saturday in a home on Del Ray Drive in Atlanta. The 2-year-old victim accidentally shot himself in the head and was taken to the hospital in critical condition, authorities said.

Atlanta police said Sunday that they arrested Dontavious Wells, 31, in connection with the case, WSB-TV reported. He faces multiple charges, including reckless conduct, cruelty to children and weapons possession.

Authorities have not said how Wells, who is being held at the Fulton County jail, is connected to the child, according to WSB-TV.
