12-year-old boy fired AK-47-style rifle in South Carolina drive-by shooting, deputies say

NEWBERRY COUNTY, S.C. — A 12-year-old boy is facing multiple charges, including attempted murder, after deputies said he fired an AK-47-style rifle at a South Carolina home and vehicle during a drive-by shooting.

According to WHNS-TV, the incident occurred Friday on Duckett Avenue in Newberry County. The boy, whom authorities have not publicly identified because he is a minor, was inside a Scion XB with three other people when he opened fire on the house and vehicle following an argument about an alleged theft. Nobody was injured in the shooting, the Newberry County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

The child was arrested on eight counts of attempted murder and breach of peace, deputies said.

Three other suspects were arrested in connection with the case, according to WHNS. Mya Leanna Flores, of Whitmire, and Kanage Aione Wise, of Pomaria, both 19, each face eight counts of attempted murder and breach of peace, deputies said. Lamar Ali Flores, 17, of Whitmire, also was charged as an adult with breach of peace, the Sheriff’s Office said.
