The officers were responding to a domestic disturbance call, Lebanon Mayor Sherry Capello said during a news conference.

“In a moment that will be remembered as a sad day in the city of Lebanon, a Lebanon city officer was fatally injured,” Capello told reporters.

The shooting happened shortly before 4:30 p.m. EDT, WGAL-TV reported. When police arrived at the scene, a 34-year-old man opened fire, according to WCAU-TV.

All three officers were taken to area hospitals, where one was pronounced dead, The Associated Press reported. A second officer is in critical condition, while the third officer was in stable condition, Capello said during the brief news conference.

The suspect was killed during the shooting, Lebanon police Chief Todd Breiner told reporters.

“As one can only imagine, I mean, it’s clearly a traumatic event,” Breiner said during the news conference. “Our guys are strong, but we’re human and we have families and people were injured today. We’re all affected by this. And with the help of our families and every other law enforcement officer around this country, we’ll get through it.”

The slain officer’s name is being withheld pending notification of family members, the AP reported.

No other details were released.
