CHICAGO — Sometimes it’s the little things.
Johnny Martin's love of dogs – and his desire for one of his own – literally got the 13-year-old out of bed on days he underwent intensive chemotherapy treatments for more than a year at Lurie Children's Hospital, WGN reported.
According to the station, the hospital staff noticed Martin always made a beeline for a favorite window as soon as he regained the strength to stand and marveled at a nearby dog park, eventually telling anyone who would listen about the "dream Corgi dog" he so desperately wanted.
In turn, the staff reached out to the nonprofit Little Wish Foundation and made Martin’s dream a reality.
Watch the adorable introduction below.
Although WGN reported Martin was declared completely cancer free one month ago, he returns regularly to Lurie for chemo to ensure the tumors now eradicated from his chest do not return. At least now, the park and his pup are waiting when his sessions are complete.
