Tina Lewis told KTRK she went to the Rose Nails salon in north Houston on Thursday and was shocked by the discussion she had with an employee.

"I was like, 'Can I get a pedicure? And what chair do I sit in?' And (the employee) was like, 'The chairs were not big enough' for me to sit in," Lewis told the television station. "And I was like, 'Are you serious?'"

Marie Bui, the employee who refused service to Lewis, told KTRK she meant no disrespect.

"I said, 'I'm sorry I cannot serve you because my spa chair is very small,'" Bui told the television station.

Bui said a previous customer damaged a chair, and employees believe it was because of that person's weight," KTRK reported.

The owner of the shop said replacing chairs costs several hundred dollars. Lewis, who said she would take her business elsewhere in the future, said the shop should put up a sign to alert customers about the weight restriction.
