DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — She told him she saw him and asked him repeatedly to walk away from her front door, but that didn’t prevent a man from making his way into the woman’s home in DeKalb County, Georgia.
The baby and the woman are heard screaming repeatedly in the video, obtained by WSB-TV. It did not appear to deter the man, who was seen rifling around the living room and appeared to help himself to the woman’s electronics.
She was alerted to his arrival around 4 a.m. by an app on her phone.
“Who’s there?” the woman asked through her doorbell speaker. In response, the man placed his hand over the camera.
“I’m calling the cops,” she said in the video. “I'm calling 911. Get off my front door! Get off my front door!”
A review of the surveillance footage showed it was not the first time the man visited the home Monday morning, according to a police report obtained by AJC.com. About two hours before, while the mother and baby were sleeping, the woman believes the same man pried open a window and swiped her purse.
When he returned, the man took a key from a lock box on a side door to enter the front of the home, DeKalb County police said in the report.
The woman had just moved to the area in the past two weeks. During that time, police have responded to six car break-ins in the neighborhood, which is located off Whites Mill Road just inside the Perimeter, WSB-TV reported.
The home invasion remains under investigation. The woman told the news station she is thankful no one was injured.
“Her life matters to me,” she said of her daughter. “That was the only thing in my mind ... I just needed to get her to safety.”
