Florida man shot dead in driveway after being followed from ATM; suspect in custody

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. — A South Florida man is facing a first-degree murder charge following what authorities believe was a robbery gone wrong.

Tevaughn Campbell, 27, was taken into custody Thursday night on suspicion of gunning down Hicksbert Dwight Grant outside his Coral Springs home on Oct. 29, WSVN reported.

According to the Sun-Sentinel, Coral Springs police contend Campbell targeted Grant, 48, after witnessing the older man using an ATM. Investigators say Campbell followed Grant home, attempted to rob him and shot him in the chest.

Calling Campbell a "very cold-hearted and cold-blooded predator," authorities have determined Grant was making a deposit rather than a withdrawal that late October night, meaning he had no cash on his person when the attack took place, the newspaper reported.

According to WSVN, authorities recovered the gun used in the killing, tracked down the shooter by using his vehicle and linked his DNA to a skull cap left at the scene.

Following the altercation, Grant was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, and police arrested Campbell Nov. 7, the TV station reported.

During his first court appearance Friday, Campbell was denied bond, the Sun-Sentinel reported.
