PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Rhode Island Division of Motor Vehicles wants to charge drivers a $15 fee for coming into a branch office in person to handle registration matters.
Although the agency said it was still considering the idea, it's in the Rhode Island Department of Revenue's annual budget proposal, according to WJAR-TV.

The proposal includes a $15 late fee for expired tags and a $15 charge to renew a registration at a branch office, WJAR reported.
The DMV, which said it would only charge the fee for registration-related matters, is trying to get residents to renew tags online.
