Polk County sheriff's deputies found two men inside a home and three women, including the child, outside the residence in Livingston around 10:30 a.m. after responding to a call about an assault, the Houston Chronicle reported. All had been shot, the newspaper reported.

Investigators responding found toddler Ranley Horn; her mother, Ashley Horn, 27; and Linda Delaney, 72, the child's great-grandmother, outside the home, KTRK reported. Inside the home, deputies found Carlos Delaney, 72, who was Linda Delaney's husband; and Randy Horn, 54, the television station reported.

"This is a horrible, horrific scene -- a horrible, horrific crime," Polk County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Byron Lyons said during a news conference Monday.

A sixth person, identified by KTRK as Ashley's Horn's mother, said she locked herself inside a bedroom during the shooting and called her son, who contacted police, the television station reported.

The woman was not hurt.

"The other female who survived this started hearing noises and pops somewhere around 5:30 (Monday) morning," Lyons said.

Polk County Sheriff Kenneth Hammack said the investigation is continuing, and his agency is working with the Texas Rangers, KHOU reported.

"At this time, no arrests have been made," Lyons said at Monday’s news conference. "Nor at this point are we looking for any suspects. We want the community to know they are safe.

"What I would ask is the community pray for this family," Lyons said. "Pray for this community. This is something we're not used to."
