ELLENWOOD, Ga. — Ten days after being shot in the head, a 7-year-old girl has died at a hospital in Georgia, police confirmed Monday.

Mariasia Thomas was injured during a drive-by shooting while she sat on her couch inside her foster home in Ellenwood, Georgia, on April 12, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution previously reported. Around 11 p.m., three bullets hit the home's front door, and four bullets went through two windows.

Her family told WSB on Wednesday that she was unresponsive at a Children's Healthcare of Atlanta hospital and was awaiting brain scans.

"She was an innocent little girl just watching TV on the couch," her biological mother, Chanrica Boyd, told the news station at the time. "It's still unreal that this is my child that was shot up in this house due to something that wasn't even involving her."

Thomas was in the custody of the Division of Family and Children Services at the time of the shooting. She had been in the foster home for about two weeks.

GoFundMe page was set up by Thomas' aunt, Kiya Caldwell, to help raise money for her funeral costs. As of Monday evening, the page had raised more than $1,000 toward its $6,000 goal.

“We do believe this house was specifically targeted,” Maj. A.T. Mears, of the DeKalb County Police Department, told WSB.

Police do not have any one in custody. It’s also unknown why the home was targeted.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 770-724-7850. A $5,000 reward is being offered for any information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the case.
