'Jeopardy's' Ken Jennings, James Holzhauer to face off in prime time special

"Jeopardy!" is doing something the answer-and-question quiz show hasn't done in 30 years -- appear in a prime time special.

Alex Trebek will be providing the answers to the questions posed by household names -  Ken Jennings, and this year's champion, James Holzhauer as they face off against a third champion, Brad Rutter, "Jeopardy!" and ABC announced on Twitter.

The trio are in the tops of the "Jeopardy!" Hall of Fame.

By the numbers, according to "Jeopardy!" records:

Jennings holds the record for most consecutive games won with 74 games in 2004. Holzhauer is second in that category with 32 games.

Jennings also has the highest winnings in regular-season play with wins totaling more than $2.520 million. Holzhauer is just behind at more than $2.462 million.

Holzhauer takes the crown for not only single-game winnings, picking $131,137 on April 17, but also holds the top 10 records for single-game winnings.

But neither Jennings nor Holzhauer can hold a candle to Rutter's winnings. He's the most-winning competitor overall, pocketing a total of more than $4.688 million in all games he has played. Jennings only  has won more than $3.370 million, while Holzhauer is third with more than $2.462 million.

"Jeopardy! The Greatest of All Time" will be shown on ABC starting Jan. 7 at 8 p.m. EST. The tournament will be two-back-to-back games, with the player of those games winning the match. The games will continue on the following nights until one player wins three matches, USA Today reported. The tournament will last from three to seven days until one of the players has won three matches netting the winner $1 million. The other two contestants will take home $250,000.

So who does Trebek think will win the show which will tape next month? It is probably anyone's game, but Trebek pointed out both Jennings or Rutter won most of their jackpots a decade ago, so they may or may not have the reflexes Holzhauer has, USA Today reported.
