Thousands forced to deal with power outages throughout Worcester County

Amid downpours and storms in Worcester County, some towns and thousands of customers were left without power on Thursday.

The storms impacted many in the area Thursday afternoon, with 7,999 National Grid customers and 1,397 Eversource customers in much of the Worcester County area left without power at 5:15 p.m

At 5:55 p.m., 7,762 National Grid customers and 1,479 Eversource customers in the same area were without power.

In all of Massachusetts, there were 12,200 power outages at 5:34 p.m., with the majority in Milford and the surrounding area.

The Upton Police Department posted on Facebook, saying 2,373 customers were affected, starting at 4:39 p.m. with an estimated restoration time of 6:30 p.m.

Uxbridge Police said the power loss in their area was caused by a blown transformer in the Granite Street and Linwood Street area. They said National Grid was aware, and estimated it would take up to two hours to restore power for everyone.

Gardner Police said the majority of the city was left without power, with the same estimated timeline for restoration.

By about 7:30 p.m., towns like Reading were talking about power being restored, thanking crews for their work.
