Teen targeted via social media to buy edibles laced with marijuana

LAWRENCE, Mass. — People in Lawrence are shocked and angry after a young teen was targeted via social media to buy edibles laced with marijuana.

Edible candies, fruity cereals, Rice Crispy treats, chocolates and muffins, all sold to a 13-year-old using social media, according to Lawrence Police.

“I don’t even know how they’re getting in contact with 13-year-olds anyway. That’s crazy to me," said Starling Martinez of Lawrence.

An unknown adult female would meet near the teen's home or school and deliver the treats.

The teen's parent tipped off police. Detectives set up a sting, contacting the sellers and made several purchases.

The undercover cops bought enough to arrest three people: 20-year-old Ranzel Ramos, 47-year-old Santos Santiago, and 36-year-old Adnellys Ramos, all of Lawrence. They were all charged with drug possession and distribution.

Residents say they're relieved they were caught.
