Teen sentenced for role in two 13-year-olds' overdose deaths

PARK CITY, Utah — A teenager charged in connection to the overdose deaths of two 13-year-olds will serve 80 hours of community service.

The Park City 15-year-old had been charged with distribution of a controlled substance and reckless endangerment. As part of a plea deal, the distribution charge was dropped. Reckless endangerment is a misdemeanor charge and the judge sentenced the boy to 90 days probation, 80 hours of community service and a $175 fine, reports FOX13.

According to police, the 15-year-old ordered the synthetic opioid known as pink over the internet from China. He admitted to being addicted to opioids and said he also had become sick from taking "pink."

The victims, Ryan Ainsworth and Grant Seaver, died within 48 hours of each other, said FOX13. However, the 15-year-old said he never directly gave the drug to the two victims, though police traced it back to him. He apologized for their deaths.

The father of Grant Seaver said that the punishment was not severe enough for the crime.
