ORANGE, Mass. — Police say Lois Ann Johnson, 62, was the driver killed in Friday's tanker truck rollover crash in Orange.
Johnson, from Woodstock, New Hampshire, was driving the truck pulling a 53-foot trailer containing numerous cylinders of pressurized natural gas. The truck had a hazmat placard showing it was carrying methane, a component of natural gas.
A preliminary state police reconstruction reveals that the truck titled along the curved exit camp, crashed through a guardrail, went over a grass embankment and rolled over, stopping along the woods.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation but there's no evidence that Johnson was impaired.
The ramp on Route 2 is still closed as the tractor and trailer need to be recovered and the guardrail repaired.
Route 2 was closed for hours on Saturday both east and westbound from exits 13 to 15.
The police tweeted of the accident shortly before 11 p.m. Friday and just after 3 a.m. that the driver had died.
Hazmat teams were on scene monitoring the area.
