Study: Suntan lotions protect better than moisturizers with SPF

If you think a moisturizer with SPF is enough to protect your skin, you may be wrong.

British researchers had people apply sun protection lotion to their faces on one day of testing and moisturizer with SPF on another.

They then took pictures with a specially-modified camera that's able to see UV light.

They found people applied a thicker layer of sun cream to their faces than moisturizer with sun protection, which in turn gave them more protection against the sun.

Study authors say they cannot recommend makeup or moisturizer with SPF, but it's better than nothing at all.

The findings were presented at the British Association of Dermatologists annual meeting in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Research presented at medical meetings should be considered preliminary until it appears in a peer-reviewed medical journal.
