Strong winds tear down trees, damaging home in North Andover

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. — There was lots of cleanup from wind damage after trees came down in North Andover Saturday. A large pine tree snapped in half before crashing onto the roof of a home on Wood Lane.

“First I heard a couple branches hitting the ground and then all of a sudden a big crack and then the ceiling kind of came down a little,” said Jackie Kelley, one of the homeowners.

Kelley said she had just gotten out of the shower and stepped into her bedroom when she saw the ceiling caving in from the tree. So she quickly found her fiancé.

“He was probably more calm than me, he called 911, brought us both outside. Me, I was panicking,” said Kelley.

“If they had been asleep it was right over their bed, it would have been a big wakeup call that’s for sure,” said Lieutenant John Weir, who responded with the North Andover Fire Department.

The strong winds kept crews busy Saturday.

Weir says within a few minutes they were called to Milk Street for another tree down by a home.

“That one, the tree didn’t hit the home, but it ripped the electrical service, damaged that,” Lt. Weir said.

Ironically Kelley says they had just had the tree service look at taking down other trees on their property before that one came down.

“Funny enough we had this tree company come to quote us for some trees in the backyard today and then we called them and we were like, ‘can you come and actually cut down a tree because there’s a tree on our roof,’” Kelley said.

Luckily no one was hurt in the damage.
