UXBRIDGE, Mass. - The first mom and pop recreational marijuana shop in the state has been approved to open as soon as Monday.
Caroline's Cannabis, located on Douglas Street in Uxbridge, is the first female-owned business to get a recreational marijuana retail license.
Today @MA_Cannabis issued a notice authorizing Caroline’s Cannabis in Uxbridge to commence adult-use retail operations in three calendar days (Monday, 3/11) or later. More information: https://t.co/EdC4fpsOUu— Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission (@MA_Cannabis) March 7, 2019
In an interview with Boston 25 News last month, owner Caroline Frankel told us she has spent the last six years navigating and funding the licensing process all by herself. She got her foot into the cannabis business initially by selling cannabis-related home decor, such as signs made from reclaimed wood.
Frankel says her new cannabis boutique will be a high-end retail store providing recreational marijuana and country-inspired crafts much like the ones she used to make when she first entered the business.
However, Frankel will have quite the competition to deal with as Uxbridge could become the home of at least six cannabis businesses, including more stores and cultivation facilities.
This will be the 11th adult use marijuana shop to open in the state as Sanctuary Medicinals in Gardner opened for recreational sales on Wednesday.
