Man, 19, assessing damage of car on highway, hit and killed

WAREHAM, Mass. — A 19-year-old man died after being hit by a car early Sunday morning in Wareham.

The man, in the car with an 18-year-old passenger, was driving eastbound on I-195 around 6:30 a.m. when their 2000 Nissan Xterra left the road and struck a guardrail off the left side of the highway.

Both men got out of the car to inspect the damage in the left-hand travel lane when a Hyannis man, 51, struck the car and the 19-year-old.

All three men were brought to Tobey Hospital in Wareham. The 19-year-old died of his injuries, while the two other men have minor injuries.

The crash is under investigation.
