State Police find missing child taken inside car stolen in Boston, search for vehicle continues

BOSTON — Boston Police say they found a 5-year-old child miles away after she had been kidnapped when a suspect stole the car she was in.

According to police, the kidnapping happened in the area of 1331 Dorchester Avenue at around 4:10 p.m. on Monday when the father was away from the car.

A worker at a nearby Vietnamese restaurant told Boston 25 News that a man who had come inside to order food soon rushed outside frantically looking for his car.

“The guy came in here, picked up his food very quick [and then] one minute something happen,” said Tuong Van. “[He was] nervous, outside just nervous running around [and] running around. Someone told him to call 911 and he just called 911. He didn’t know what to do, just running around nervous.”

Surveillance video from the scene shows the man parking his car and going inside the restaurant.

A few minutes later, someone is seen walking across the street and then getting inside the car and driving away. In their attempt to flee the scene, the suspect nearly crashes into another car.

The father is then seen coming back outside searching for his car and calling 911.

The car is described as a 2007 silver Honda Accord with tinted windows and Massachusetts plate US117D.

State Police troopers found the child in Randolph in the area of Powdrell Avenue and said she seemed to be uninjured. Police were able to trace the location of the car by pinging the father’s cell phone, which was inside the stolen car and showed it had been traveling south of Boston.

Monique Brown, who lives in the area, said the girl showed up on her doorstep, crying.

“She just said, ‘Someone dropped me off,’ I said who? She said, ‘I don’t know,'" said Brown.

Brown’s Ring camera caught the moment the girl was dropped off and can be seen running out of her dad’s car. The little girl, according to Brown, had no idea what was happening. Brown then asked her to come inside until police showed up.

“She’s so sweet, she said, ‘I don’t think I can go in a stranger’s house,’” said Brown.

Seconds later, the phone the girl had on her started ringing - it was a call from Boston Police.

“It was on the little girl’s phone, and they were very concerned obviously,” said Brown. “They wanted to know who I was. They were able to come and get her. I was like, ‘Kidnapped, what do you mean kidnapped?’ We were able to have the police come."

The child, who has not been identified due to her age, was taken away by first responders in an ambulance as a precautionary measure.

Police are asking for the public’s help locating the stolen car and kidnapping suspect. Anyone with information should contact the Crime Stoppers tip line at 1-800-494-TIPS or by texting “TIP” to 27463 (CRIME).
