Some Mass. residents getting ready for a half-foot of snow

BROCKTON, Mass. — The Brockton Department of Public Works personnel started showing up around 8p.m., Thursday in preparation for what should be a busy morning.

Still, whether it’s DPW or the local plows, you’ll be sure to see a lot of trucks out and about scraping roads and pouring salt. They’ll take care of the major roads, but what about your driveway?

“That’s my new snow blower, battery-operated,” said Brockton resident Janice Lorusso. “We have the lawnmower and it was wonderful and we decided to go with the snow blower. We decided let’s do it and ordered it online yesterday and came here to pick it up today.”

We saw shoppers stacking up on snow blowers, shovels, and salt, and getting greedy with groceries, gas, and generators.

“I’m gassing up,” said Norton resident Dave Coughlin. “I’m going to the store to buy a couple of big gallon gas tanks for my generator. I’m doing everything I can to be ready.”

“I’m trying to get the last few things I need like gas so I don’t worry about it for a few days,” said Bridgewater resident Caroline Dos Santos. “Water and stuff like that.”

The more they do now, the less driving they’ll have to do in a half-foot of snow.

“I don’t have to drive in it at all,” said Dos Santos. “I’d rather be home safe where I don’t have to drive in it at all.”

“If you do have to get out, hopefully, the roadways and driveways will be cleared.

“I start work at noontime so I’ll have plenty of time to figure out the snow blower and hopefully, it’ll work nice,” said Lorusso.

DPW is warning residents to refrain from parking on the street during the storm which helps with both pretreatment and plowing efforts.
