Solar glare not a factor in crash that killed Westwood boy, officials say

The Westwood woman charged with motor vehicle homicide that killed a 6-year-old boy faced a judge Tuesday.

Police arrested 20-year-old Anne Marie McInnis months after they say she hit and killed a boy has he tried to cross the street with his family.

According to court documents, McInnis told police the sun was in her eyes as she drove down Pond Street in Westwood in November. When she did see the family in the crosswalk, she accidentally hit the gas instead of the brake. A police reconstruction team later ruled that solar glare was not a contributing factor in the crash.

A witness told investigators it appeared McInnis panicked and actually veered toward the family, rather than away.

Six-year-old Eddie Thompson was killed. Eddie's father, Robert, was seriously injured, but survived. He is still recovering from a broken leg, fractured skill and brain damage.

Last month, Robert told investigators that he remembers nothing from the entire day of the accident.
Investigators are now seeking new evidence and are filing a subpoena for the text log data and call log data on McInnis' cell phone.
