Senator agrees to step down temporarily after allegations he improperly used his position

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- State Senator Brian Joyce, a Democrat from Milton who has been under fire over possible conflicts of interest has agreed to temporarily and voluntarily step down from two leadership positions until the matter is resolved.

Joyce is remaining in his seat in the Senate. A source confirms to FOX25 Political Reporter Sharman Sacchetti the Milton Democrat has sent a letter to Senate President Stanley Rosenberg, agreeing to cooperate with an ethics investigation.

Joyce chairs the Senate committee on bills in the third reading and also serves as assistant majority leader. He receives an additional $15,000 for both of those positions, and it's unclear if he will forfeit that money while the investigation is underway.

He has been under fire after reports in the Boston Globe showed he improperly used his position to benefit clients at his law practice.
