Secret Service agent weds after crash paralyzes him

BOSTON — A Secret Service agent injured seriously injured last month in a car crash in New Hampshire has tied the knot.

Garrett FitzGerald was on duty on Dec. 29 when another vehicle crossed the center line and hit his vehicle head on.
FitzGerald suffered a major spinal injury in the crash and is paralyzed from the chest down.

The wedding ceremony was held in the ICU at Mass General Hospital where FitzGerald has been since the crash.

He had just moved to Boston with his fiancee Joan in September.

"Their wedding was previously scheduled for March 2016, but was moved up given the circumstances around the accident and Garrett's impending intense rehabilitation schedule," a post on the gofundme page says. "There was not a dry eye in his ICU room as family from all over the world video streamed the ceremony live. Cheers to Garrett and Joan and a lifetime of memories, happiness and smiles together."

The driver of the other vehicle died at that scene of the crash. Police say he did not have a current driver's license.

To learn more about the crash and FitzGerald's recovery visit the gofundme page. More than $200,000 has already been raised to help with the medical bills.
