The Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources honored the winners Friday. They are: the city of Pawtucket, Warwick Public Schools, Rhode Island Department of Transportation, Rhode Island Convention Center and Rhode Island College.
It was the third annual "Lead By Example" awards ceremony at the State House.
Democratic Gov. Gina Raimondo signed an executive order directing state agencies to transition energy supply and consumption practices to lower-cost, cleaner, low-carbon solutions.
She praised the winners for helping create a more reliable, affordable and sustainable energy future.
Pawtucket invested $4.5 million to update heating and lighting equipment in city buildings. Rhode Island College implemented energy efficiency and infrastructure improvements in 33 buildings.
