He was unopposed in Wednesday's Democratic primary. Republicans didn't put forward a candidate and Neronha faces no significant opposition in November.
Neronha was one of 46 U.S. attorneys appointed by President Barack Obama who was ordered to resign by President Donald Trump.
Neronha says he's running for attorney general because he decided his work for the people of Rhode Island wasn't finished.
Neronha spearheaded several investigations into public corruption during nearly eight years as the state's top federal prosecutor.
The Rhode Island native served in state government as a special assistant attorney general before becoming an assistant U.S. attorney in 2002.
Democratic Attorney General Peter Kilmartin is term-limited.
