Revere bank robbery suspect found hiding in port-a-potty

REVERE, Mass. — The man accused of robbing a bank and leading police on a wild, seven mile chase will head to court on Thursday.

The suspect, 41-year-old Steven Spolidoro, spent the night in the custody of Revere police and is expected to be arraigned in Chelsea.

An off-duty Everett police officer started to follow Spolidoro with a worker from the bank in his passenger seat.

A Revere police officer joined in, and crashed to avoid hitting Spolidoro’s abandoned getaway car found under the I-93 bridge.

Police said they located Spolidoro in a port-a-potty.

Boston 25 News learned Spolidoro has an extensive criminal history, including an armed robbery in New Hampshire in 2012. Police said they’re working to find out if he’s also connected to a string of recent unsolved bank robberies, including a holdup at another East Boston Savings Bank branch in Everett last week.

Investigators posted a picture of the suspect on social media showing him wearing a New England Patriots sweatshirt.

Investigators said the way the robberies were committed is similar to what happened during the Revere bank robbery.

As for the officer who crashed during the pursuit, Boston 25 News learned he suffered a cut to the hand but is otherwise OK.
