Randolph man attacked, robbed while out for morning walk

RANDOLPH, Mass. — One man has been arrested after an elderly man was attacked and robbed Sunday morning.

Bruised and still bloody, a Randolph man told Boston 25 News he was grateful to be alive after he was attacked and robbed on his morning walk Sunday.

"I never expected it, just out of the blue," he said.

The 74-year-old was still shake up and didn't want to share his name when he spoke with us but said he remembers seeing someone walking near him around 10:30 acting strangely. And then it was darkness.

"The guy, kid whoever he was walked right by me and that's the last thing- I don't remember where or how he hit me all I remember is waking up on the ground – I felt like 'What the heck happened to me?  Did I have a heart attack or something like that?' Then when I got into the ambulance I was like 'Oh my wallet is gone and my keys are gone,'" the man told Boston 25.

He said an Uber driver with a passenger pulled over.

"I guess they saw it and thankfully stopped – she helped my dad and called for an ambulance while the Uber driver chased the perpetrator on foot."

Randolph Police say the Uber driver was able to give police a description and they began searching the area.

A short time later, a neighbor called police saying she saw someone run through her backyard.

Soon, officers tracked down the suspect, 29-year-old Demetrius James.

James was arrested and charged with assault and battery on a person over 65 years old and unarmed robbery.
