Quincy high school evacuated over paintball smoke device

QUINCY, Mass. — Classes will resume today at North Quincy High School as police review security cameras to see if they can figure out who left a smoke device in the library.

A staff member found the smoke device Monday morning. It's a type of device that's often used during paintball games and creates a lot of smoke.

Students and staff were sent home early, while police and K-9's searched the building as a precaution.

"It was an expended device so there was never really any danger to our staff or our students, but it was best to dismiss them because we didn't know if there were others in the building,"  Superintendent of Quincy Public Schools Dr. Rick Decristofaro said.

Police didn't find any other smoke devices.
