• Prosecutors open murder trial against Malden man accused of strangling wife

WOBURN, Mass. - Opening arguments began Wednesday in the trial of a Malden man accused of killing his live-in girlfriend with a dog leash.

Prosecutors say Ryan Power killed Leah Penny in 2017. They said Power left Penny’s body at the base of the stairs in the house they shared and called his mother to have her pick up the couple’s children.

The defense told the jury to pay close attention to the evidence presented and go beyond what seems obvious.

The trial is expected to last several weeks with 27 people on the prosecution’s witness list.
