Prince remembered by Boston music scene

BOSTON — The world lost a music legend Thursday when Prince died in his Minneapolis home at the age of 57.

The rocker had been through a lot of changes through his career, but one thing was consistent: his stage presence.

One of the most iconic moments was when prince performed at The Roxy in Boston on Jan. 8, 1997.

Boston radio station MIX 104.1 broke in to their programming with news about Prince's death and they have been playing music by the artist for the better part of the afternoon.

“Whether you loved his music or not, his music will remain on the soundtrack of anybody’s life that came of age or grew up in the 80s and 90s,” “Fast Freddy” Murphy, a DJ at the station said. “To hear this news today really was a shocking, shocking moment and the first thing I said was, I’ve got to get to work.”

Berklee College of Music guitar professor Thaddeus Hogarth said he makes sure students know who Prince was and why he was so important.

"It was a very signature sound, it was a Minneapolis sound. Rhythm guitar played in the high positions. It was his own thing and we all followed,” Hogarth said.
