Police: Worcester man goes on rape, carjacking, kidnapping, crime spree

WORCESTER, Mass. — A man was arrested Tuesday after a crime spree through Worcester that included rape, carjacking and kidnapping.

Tuesday around 5:15 p.m., officers responded to a Main Street business office for a rape. The 27-year-old female victim told police a man entered her office, held her throat and then raped her, all while in possession of a knife. After the attack, the man allegedly grabbed her car keys and fled.

About 15 minutes later, an officer on patrol on Grove Street was flagged down by a man. The man informed the officers that his 21-year-old girlfriend had been leaving work on Main Street when her blue Subaru Forester was carjacked. Officers later learned the suspect allegedly had grabbed her by the throat. She was on the phone with her boyfriend at the time of the incident.

Police said at this time, another woman walked up to the officer and told him she was just involved in a hit and run incident with a blue Subaru Forester on Grove Street by Institute Road.

The officer then issued a “be on the lookout” for the Subaru.

State Police’s K-9 unit found the Subaru around 5:50 p.m. in the driveway of a North Ashland home. Officer's later learned that the carjacked woman had “bailed out of the car,” while the suspect kept driving, said police. The woman later told officers the suspect had sexually assaulted her during the drive, said police.

Several police officers converged on the North Ashland area to search for the man.

Shortly after, dispatchers received a call of an armed robbery in progress at a Denny Street business, just around the corner from where the Subaru was found.

Police responded and the first officer saw a 38-year-old man running from the porch yelling that the suspect was still inside. Officers walked onto the porch and saw a man fitting the suspect’s description crouching in the corner, said police.

Officers told the man to show his hands and the suspect complied. While trying to arrest him, police said the man began resisting and struggling. At one point the suspect allegedly said he had an assault weapon and would not hesitate to "spray" them.

While interviewing the people in the Denny Street business, officers learned they had just locked up for the day when the suspect began pounding on the door. He allegedly broke the glass, reached in and unlocked the door. One man, the 38-year-old seen running from the scene, had tried to stop him,but the suspect ripped his gold chain off, said police. All the while, the suspect had allegedly been holding a knife

The suspect was identified as Antonio Damon, 35-years-old of 25 Queen St., Worcester. Damon was charged with 2 counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, aggravated rape, strangulation, armed robbery, kidnapping, carjacking, indecent assault and battery on a person over the age of 14, breaking and entering into a building in the daytime placing a person in fear, 2 counts of armed robbery and assault with the intent to rape.
