Police: Waltham officer injured in accidental gun discharge

WALTHAM, Mass. — A Waltham police officer had to undergo surgery after she was injured by her own gun.

Veteran Waltham Police Officer June Conway radioed in just after 7:15 Thursday morning to report an accidental shooting at her home on School Avenue.

The officer suffered a leg injury at her house when the gun went off. She was taken to the hospital, underwent surgery and is expected to recover.

Waltham Police say Conway has been on the force for more than 30 years and works in community policing and for the Housing Authority. She's also a certified rape investigator and hostage negotiator.

Police are investigating the reason for the accident.
